Graduates Andres and Martin

GN graduates taking on the world

“A great experience,” is one of the first sentences coming out of the mouth of our graduates.

We are checking in with some of our graduates who were sent off to their international rotations a couple of months ago now. The graduates who joined us in 2016 are on their second rotation with 8 months in one of our subsidiaries around the world before coming back to Ballerup in the greater Copenhagen area in Denmark once again.

Our 7 graduates have dispersed globally with four graduates in the US (Chicago and Boston) and graduates in Singapore, the UK and Brazil. Andreas Jahn (marketing graduate) and Martin Bang Hansen (finance graduate) have joined the Beltone team in Glenview, Chicago.

Martin is ready to dive into all the new experiences the rotation has already brought him:

“The first month of my rotation abroad has been a great experience. The team at the Beltone office in Glenview has been very welcoming, and I was already from the beginning introduced to a lot of different projects I will be working on throughout my rotation. The tasks vary in different areas of finance and represent a great opportunity for me to learn about the Retail business in Beltone as well as other controlling/finance related topics. With all daily routines, surroundings, work tasks and colleagues changed from one day to another, there is unquestionably many new impressions to digest at once, but as exhausting as this could seem to some it is in my opinion one of the best parts of the Graduate Program.”

Andreas is amazed by the Chicago area and also feels welcomed into the team:

“Even though it is still early days, my relocation to Chicago has been great so far. Time flies by fast when you get new impressions and learn new things every day. My new colleagues have been very good in welcoming me, which of course is essential to feeling part of the team. I have already been assigned to take part in some larger, very exciting projects so my next months are looking great!”

Sometimes it is good not just to see the ‘big picture’

Working in a subsidiary can be very different from headquarters. One thing, Martin has already noticed:

“Going to a subsidiary is interesting in a number of ways. Not only are the surroundings much different, but it is a great experience to get a feeling of how the business operates on a more local level and not just seeing the ‘big picture’ from our Danish office. In an international business such as GN it is important to build relations to your colleagues all around the world, so I find rotations abroad very valuable to strengthen these relations and share knowledge across GN.”

We will be following Martin and Andreas as well as the five other 2016 Graduates on their journeys in the subsidiaries and when they are back home next year.
